I was very lucky to work with the amazing staff at the EKWC, their knowledge, willingness to ask questions and love of good coffee was incredible. Lydia (Ly) Denters worked with me to load and fire this large gas 3 times.

when the computer breaks... you buy a bike

Trying to somehow put a cap on all of this, now a full month after arriving home. It seems the computer disaster proved to be more of a hindrance to my blogging than I would have hoped.
In the end though the studio comes first and I spent my summer immersed in a way that was surreal, exhausting, and numinous.

Here are some views from the library window of the EKWC of the skyline (and kiln stacks). The big church is St. Jacobus church. Its actually part of the Heronimus Bosch Art Center (Bosch is this towns famous son). Still haven't been there myself but James Gleason (brother in law extraordinair) did when he blessed me with a quick visit while on business.

A trip to Eindhoven

Took the train to Eindhoven to see the exhibit at the Von Abbe Museum with Matt Scheatzle another participant here at the center. Saw what was one of the best video pieces I think I have ever seen called Zidane, A 21st Century Portrait by artists Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno, it was mesmerizing. Spent so much time that I neglected the rest of the museum but especially enjoyed the El Lissitzky and Contemporaries exhibit. Heres some of the Zidan, enjoy...

don't drop your macbook pro on the concrete floor!

So, I've been a bit delayed on posting. My intention to post once a week has been curtailed by my business in the studio and by the 1.5 meter (see I'm using the metric system) fall onto concrete. So now my screen looks like this. So, options are have apple fix it for $750 euros and wait 2-3 weeks, or buy the part on ebay and fix it myself. More on that later, for now, I use an external screen.

a week into

A week goes by both slow and fast. Getting my bearings, getting to know the other people here, getting sung happy birthday in Dutch (its 3 kisses on the cheek).

Through Detroit, train from Amsterdam to s'Hertogenbosch, short but confused walk to the hotel, shower, salmon lox sandwich at Sam Sam, learned how to say Thank you, Dank U Wel, walk around town and back for a nap, very happy to be here. Tomorrow I head over to the EKWC.
